So the idea of commitment doesn’t come naturally to men as it does for us women. We get commitment. Men don’t.

Think about it this way…

What do women talk about growing up as teenagers? Relationships of course! We love gossiping about relationships. (There’s nothing wrong with that at all.)

What about guys? What do men talk about growing up?

Well, the answer is certainly not about relationships, but rather competitions, proving their capabilities and their resourcefulness.

In fact, unless a man has had the influence of a great woman, he would never really become fluent in the language of a relationship.

It’s just not his domain. (And that’s perfectly OK!)

This is why you see men of ANY age, (incredibly smart men who know how to fix almost anything) but having little to no skill when it comes to relationships.

So what does this mean for you? It means that the intuitive emotional commitment that you yearn for in a relationship can sometimes be a foreign counterintuitive notion to a man, especially a masculine man.

Men don’t automatically gravitate towards commitment. Rather, they need to be emotionally inspired to commit their energy, emotions and resources to one woman.

Both men and women have what scientists would call “dual mating strategies” when it comes to passing on their genes.

For a man, he is always looking to put you in one of two potential baskets. (This process is actually very automatic and subconscious, meaning he doesn’t have to consciously realise it for it to occur.)

You as a woman become either his “one of many” type of woman, or his “One & Only” woman.

…And as you can imagine, how he treats women in those two baskets are drastically different.

Men will almost never emotionally commit to the women they perceive as their “one of many”. (These women are therefore seen as more so “disposable” women.)

This isn’t because of some underlying conspiracy of men being misogynistic…

Every man has this “dual mating strategy” simply because this appropriately conserves his resources for when it really matters.

So the result being - you will never get his emotional commitment if you don't become his one and only type of woman...

...And if you don't become your man's one and only, then he will always have his defences up, and exhibit incredible commitment resistance. (As if you’re fighting a losing battle.)

Because men intuitively reserve all of their energy, time, and resources for the woman he perceives as his one and only.

And that is true of men in every culture, every socioeconomic level and every background.

Sounds harsh I know, but that’s the reality.

You either get it all, or get basically nothing.

You either have true love or you have nothing at all.

That is simply how men invest in the women in their life. Look at Tiger Woods as a prime example. He had his wife in which he spent most of his resources on…

…And of course as we all found out, he had a buffet of “other” women whom he did just enough to keep them around. (I remember one interview back when his cheating was all over the news that some of the ‘other” women revealed they never received any money or other type of resource from him.)

The point is, a man will either invest everything in you or just enough to keep you around. How a man treats his “One & Only” versus his one of many is like night & day.

You know it, I know it. Words are cheap. Even promises can be cheap.

Just because he promises to commit or says he’s committing doesn’t make it so. Don’t be fooled.

Us women, we have a tendency sometimes to get sucked in by sweet words and sweet promises. But those words can often be incongruent to his actions and habits.

Here’s another thing that sometimes tricks us as women… Don’t confuse having his emotional commitment to being in a relationship with him.

A man could marry out of pressure but all the while still seeing the woman as his “one of many”.  (Trust me, it happens more than you think!)

…And look, plenty of men “stay” in a relationship that is convenient and suddenly one day out of the blue dumps that woman for apparently no reason at all.

That is a telltale sign of being a “one of many” type of woman. He did just enough to keep you hanging around, until he didn’t need you anymore.

You might be wondering… why keep these women around? Why not just break up with them?

Great question. See, from a man’s perspective, having a woman around is a resource to hold onto. It usually means somewhat convenient sex. (…And to men who produce 300 million sperm a day, that’s a good resource to have around.)

So sometimes it’s easy to feel safe and secure having a “relationship”, but remember there’s a huge difference between being a man’s true “One & Only”, to having the status of a “relationship” with him.

I think in your heart of hearts, in your deepest gut intuition, in your infinite wisdom, you would know if your man sees you as his “One & Only”.

You may not want to believe it, but I believe you have an inner feminine intuition that knows the truth.

Sometimes we lie to ourselves in order to not feel disappointment or feel like a failure. I can completely understand. So here are some real life signs that he has consciously or subconsciously made you his “One & Only”.

Perhaps he takes an extra effort to take a look at you when he says goodbye.

Perhaps he unexpectedly goes out of his way to get you something that he thinks would really light up your day.

Perhaps he checks up on you repeatedly when you are sick, stays with you and comforts you when you’re not well.

Perhaps he makes that little bit more effort in trying to understand you and your world…

Obviously this isn’t an exhaustive list of what could happen when a man sees you as his “One & Only”. But one thing is for sure, if you stay with your gut instinct, you will know when that time comes.
